Ballerina

Ballerina is on the move! My new book on the backstage life of the world’s most iconic dancer is out in Canada on September 29, with US distribution following a few weeks later. The weekend of the book’s launch. I will be signing copies at Teatro Verde in Toronto (98 Yorkville Ave.) from 2 until 3 p.m., both Saturday and Sunday. The official launch party will be on the evening of October 2, so stay tuned for updates and photos of Ballerina’s big night out. There’s already strong media interest in the book: McLean’s, Canada’s news magazine, has just written a review (I haven’t read it yet for nerves, but have been told it’s a good one), and CBC radio will be doing coast-to-coast interviews with me, starting next week. I am so excited! And also thrilled that ballerinas are captivating so many people’s attention. I worried while writing it that few would share my passion for these incredible women in pointe shoes. But it seems I miscalculated.  Dance Gazette in London is also writing about Ballerina: Sex, Scandal and Suffering Behind the Symbol of Perfection in its upcoming issue, and Flare, Canada’s fashion magazine, has said it is profiling the book and me for the November issue. Look for write-ups also in Hello! and in Elle Canada.com. I hope many of you will also find room on your dance card for Ballerina, a backstage history that lifts the veil on the earthy reality behind the ethereality — as juicy as it sounds!
